CrWMn ALLOY TOOL STEEL

CrWMn Cold Work Steel is the most commonly used high-carbon alloy tool steel for making molds. It is a widely used cold work mold steel and is known as "non-deformable steel". However, it is sensitive to the formation of network carbides

Heat Treatment:

1. anneal

- Objective: To reduce hardness and improve machinability.

- Process: Heating to 760-790°C, slowly cooling after holding.

2. normalizing

- Objective: refine grain and uniform structure.

- Process: Heated to 850-880°C, held and cooled in air.

3. quench

- Purpose: To improve hardness and strength.

- Process: heating to 820-850°C, rapid cooling after holding (oil or water quenching).

4. temper

- Objective: To eliminate quenching stress and improve toughness.

- Process: Heating to 150-200°C (low temperature tempering) or 400-600°C (high temperature tempering) after quenching, cooling after holding.

5. Cryogenic treatment

- Purpose: improve hardness and wear resistance, stable size.

- Process: Immediately after quenching, cryogenic treatment (-70°C to -196°C), followed by tempering.

The specialty of the steel:

CrWMn is a high-carbon and high-chromium tool steel with the following properties:

- High hardness: After proper heat treatment, with a high hardness.

- Good wear resistance: suitable for high wear conditions.

- Good toughness: While maintaining high hardness, it has good toughness.

- Hardenability: Chromium and manganese elements improve its hardenability, suitable for heat treatment of large section parts.

- Dimensional stability: small deformation after heat treatment, suitable for precision tools and molds.

Main uses:

CrWMn is widely used to manufacture tools and molds that require high hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability. Typical applications include:

- Cold working die: such as stamping die, cold heading die, etc.

- Cutting tools: such as cutting tools, measuring tools, etc.

- Precision parts: such as precision shaft, sleeve, etc.

- Other tools: such as scissors, punches, etc.
